Consolidation continues in the mobile games market
US-based mobile games developer and publisher Glu Mobile has announced its acquisition of Manchester, UK based publisher iFone. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed by the two privately-owned companies, thought to have a joint workforce of around 250. Comment: The iFone acquisition will give Glu far better traction in the UK and Europe, as well as allowing it to launch some of iFone's successful games titles in North America. iFone currently owns the rights to many classic games brands, such as Lemmings and Monopoly, and this complements Glu's portfolio, which favours more up-to-date action-based titles. So, there's nothing particularly surprising here.
