Serenity: Renegades
October 24, 2005 - The fact that Serenity: Renegades has subtitle leads me to assume Indiagames has more than one game in the works based on the movie follow-up to Joss Whedon's cancelled sci-fi television series. Judging from the underwhelming returns on the movie, maybe there aren't as many "Firefly" fans as one originally thought. However, Indiagames' little shooter should find a decent sized fan-base, as it provides some solid top-down shmup sessions.

Wonder Boy
October 21, 2005 - Long-time SEGA fans -- like myself -- are well familiar with Wonder Boy. One of the original heroes of the SEGA Master System, Wonder Boy was a basic side-scroller starring a B.C. boy equipped only with an axe and a skateboard that had to rescue his girl from the clutches of a set of evil head-swapping kings. It wasn't deep, but in 1987, not many video games were. I loved it then, and while time has eroded some of my affinity for the 8-bit classic, it's a good little mobile game.
The Week in Wireless 10.21.05
October 21, 2005 - Willkommen to This Week in Wireless! I filled several hours this week monkeying with the new Gizmondo, which is certainly getting a thrashing in the games media right now. But rather than just try to "out-savage" other journos, I wanted to sit down and actually figure out if there truly is an audience for the device. That on-board GPS stuff could be a big hook if Tiger implements it correctly, especially if it can cook up just the right game to use it. Is it gonna outsell the DS? No. But it could find a nice niche.

IGN: Alone: The Horror Begins Preview
October 13, 2005 - Screaming to handsets just in time for Halloween, Centerscore's Alone: The Horror Begins helps fill out a genre that has been woefully ignored on mobile: horror. Of course, the technology certainly has a lot working against it -- it's hard to get the heebie-jeebies off of a 1.5-inch screen. But that certainly hasn't stopped Centerscore from giving it the proverbial college try. And while I didn't need a nightlight after I finished playing, I definitely appreciated some of the creepy factor that the developer was able to infuse in this largely enjoyable romp.
IGN: Word Whomp Preview
October 13, 2005 - Wordies are the target audience for EA Mobile's next Pogo game for cellphones: Word Whomp. The literal vocabulary building game asks player to form as many three- to seven-letter words out of a collection of seven letters given at the beginning of a round. By lining up the letter tiles, then pressing a designated enter key, you help an on-screen gopher dig ever closer to his turnip prize.
IGN: Harvest Mania
October 13, 2005 - EA Mobile's success with its first three Pogo.com offerings has prompted the firm to expand the library this fall season with two additional titles, one being Harvest Mania. Users of the popular PC Pogo portal are undoubtedly familiar with the game, as Harvest Mania racks up almost 600,000 unique players a month. The decision to port it to handsets was nothing short of obvious, and in my play time with the mobile edition, I cannot understand why this wasn't among the first batch. Even in preview form, this is an immensely playable puzzler with cutie-poo graphics, devilish mechanics, and offers plenty of chances to pad your Pogo wallet with hard-earned tokens.

NHL 5-on-5 2006
October 12, 2005 - NHL 5-on-5 2006 is quite simply the best mobile hockey game you have yet played. It streamlines the essence of the sport for easy, bite-sized consumption -- all of the checks, slapshots, and hits are indeed present, but without a convoluted control scheme that stands between you and them. If I'm starting the review with a little gushing, forgive me. After the dismal lock out last season that put a friend of mine into a severe funk, it's good to see the sport back on the ice -- and so well represented on my phone.
Ultimate Spider-Man
October 11, 2005 - Ultimate Spider-Man released a few weeks ago for consoles to much fanfare, with both Marvel fans and gamers crowing about the game's fun webslinging mechanics and incredible attention to detail.
